The Bell&Howell A-340 homage |
|
I have been rebuilding
Bell&Howell and Pitney Bowes Inserters since 1984 along with
other types of mailing equipment such as folders, tabbers,
labelers and meter bases. By the late nineties I decided to
streamline the business to primarily rebuilding Bell&Howell
and Mailcrafter Inserters. Specializing in the reliable no
bells or whistles just a straight out work horse which
of course is the Bell&Howell A-340
Imperial letter shop style inserter and still to this day is
the most used inserter in the direct mail industry. Those
who are from the old school know it doesn't take frills to
insert envelopes it just takes a well designed Inserter to do the job and that's why the A-340 Imperial
has changed very little mechanically in 60 years because it
worked then and it works now. As long as envelope inserting
is needed they're will always be a job that needs the A-340
to do it. Let's just say the bulk of direct mail inserting
does not require intelligent insertion. The one thing I will
agree with anyone about the A-340 is the 70's green paint
was a bad choice of color and fortunately it did not affect
the operation of the machine. And with our full rebuilds we
completely strip away all that green paint and resurrect
this old horse with fresh new ivory skin, a new heart and
plenty of muscle to run for another 20 years. |
